JEFF BADER, FORMER ASSISTANT USTR, JOINS STONEBRIDGE INTERNATIONAL AS SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT
Jeff Bader will enhance firmÁs expertise and reach in Asia

WASHINGTON, DC, Friday, May 10, 2002 — Stonebridge International announced today that Jeffrey A. Bader, formerly Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for China, Hong Kong, Mongolia & Taiwan, has joined the firm as Senior Vice President. Bader will advise and assist businesses on matters involving Asia, with a particular focus on China and Taiwan.

“Jeff has unsurpassed, current knowledge and experience regarding China in particular and Asia in general. We are delighted that he is joining the Stonebridge team,” said Samuel R. Berger, former National Security Adviser and Chairman of Stonebridge International. At Stonebridge, Bader will join a highly regarded and talented group of Asian experts, including Berger, Dr. Kenneth Lieberthal, Ambassador Pete Peterson, Mr. Bill Seidman and others.

Bader has been centrally involved in U.S.-China policy during his 27-year career in the U.S. Government. Through his work at the State Department, the National Security Council and the United States Trade Representative’s office, he played a lead role in rebuilding U.S.-China relations during the 1990s and worked on critical political, security, economic, and commercial issues in the relationship. Most recently, he had principal responsibility for the successful completion of negotiations on the accession of China and Taiwan into the World Trade Organization.

During his distinguished career, Bader has worked closely with top-level officials throughout Asia, particularly in Beijing, Hong Kong and Taipei. He has served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for China, Taiwan and Southeast Asia, as Director of Asian Affairs at the National Security Council, and as Director of the State Department’s Office of Chinese Affairs. Bader also has served several tours in Africa including U.S. Ambassador to Namibia from 1999 to 2001. Born in New York, he received a B.A. from Yale University and an M.A. and PhD from Columbia University. He speaks Chinese and French.
